Eight people sustained injuries, including four who are in critical condition, after a large crowd tried to force entry into Nigerian afrobeat star Asake’s concert in 02 Brixton Academy, London.
The Metropolitan Police has started investigating the situation which they said was an “extremely distressing” incident.

At about 9:35pm on Thursday, the Met Police were called to the venue in South London, this was after there was a report that a large number of people were trying to force entry.
Video clip from outside the venue showed a large number of people pushing to get in.

The concert was called-off in 10 minutes after Asake appeared on stage.
Before the gig, Asake took to his Twitter asking fans not to turn up to the venue and try to gain entry unless they had ticket.

Another man then came on the stage to explain the situation, in his words:
“We have stopped the show, because they breached the door. You have got 3,000 people trying to break the door outside and because of security, police have asked us to close the show. We apologize to you. This has nothing to do with us,” he said.
The disappointed crowd were admonished to leave the building immediately. While there’s been no arrest, detectives from specialist crime have launched an urgent investigation and cordons have rremained in place at the Brixton Academy.

The Met police gold commander, Ade Adelekan has described the incident that took place at the Brixton Academy as “extremely distressing”
Adelekan added: “I am aware of video being shared on social media. I would admonish people to be sensible about what they share, and not to post materials that will be upsetting to those affected by this incidents.”
“In relation to a clip being widely shared, I can confirm that no police dog were deployed to the location.”
Ahmed Ololade, otherwise known as Asake, was nominated for BBC Radio 1’s Sound of 2023 award.
