President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday greeted people on Diwali and wished them joy and happiness.
President Murmu tweeted, “Happy Diwali to all countrymen! On this holy festival of light and joy, let us try to bring happiness to the lives of those in need by lighting the lamp of knowledge and energy. On this great festival, I pray for happiness and prosperity in the lives of all the countrymen.”
PM Modi tweeted, “Wishing everyone a Happy Diwali. Diwali is associated with brightness and radiance. May this auspicious festival further the spirit of joy and well-being in our lives. I hope you have a wonderful Diwali with family and friends.”
The Prime Minister will be celebrating the festival in Kargil with Indian soldiers.
Union Miniter for Home Affairs Amit Shah also extended his greetings for Diwali on Twitter. He said, “Happy Diwali to all the countrymen. May this festival of lights bring happiness, health and prosperity in everyone’s life.”
Governor of Telangana and the Lieutenant Governor Puducherry Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan
conveyed her Diwali greetings in Tamil. She Tweeted: Wishing everyone a very happy Diwali. May the light spread in everyone’s lives.
Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi, AIADMK interim chief K Palaniswami and other leaders extended their Deepavali greetings to the people on Sunday.
The festival is being celebrated on Monday.
The Festival of Lights marks the victory of good over evil. The festival inspires us to illuminate our hearts with wisdom, compassion and optimism. Let’s celebrate the festival together as one family and share the happiness with our loved ones,” Ravi said in a Raj Bhavan statement.
“May the Goddess Laxmi Devi bless us with peace, good health and prosperity,” he said while greeting the people a happy, healthy, safe and “green Deepavali.” AIADMK leader Palaniswami, in a party statement, said Deepavali symbolises the victory of ‘dharma’ against those with demonic features, selfishness and arrogance.
The festival marked the establishment of justice and peace, he said.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday greeted people on Diwali and wished that the festival of lights brings them success and health.
Wishing you a Happy Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas. I pray to God that each ‘diya’ on this Diwali day brings your home success and health,” Mann said in a video message. Bandi Chhor Divas coincides with Diwali and it marks the historical release of the sixth Sikh guru, Guru Hargobind, along with 52 kings from a Mughal prison in 1620.
Mann also asked people to celebrate a green Diwali.
Pollution is a problem and has become a challenge. Therefore, efforts should be made to celebrate green Diwali,” the Punjab chief minister said.
Wishing people to celebrate a safe Diwali, Mann said, “Lakhs of people lose their eyesight on this day because of firecrackers and a majority of them are children. Along with Happy Diwali, I also wish people a safe Diwali.”
Haryana Chief Minister Khattar greeted people on Diwali and in a tweet said, “May Goddess Lakshmi bless everyone and let there be happiness and prosperity in each house.” The Punjab government has allowed a window of two hours from 8 pm till 10 pm for bursting firecrackers while the Haryana government has allowed only green crackers in the state.
