Man dies after taking a concoction believed to be medicine to help him stop drinking alcohol

A MAN of Mwense district in Zambia has died after taking a concoction which was given to him by a traditional healer believed to be medicine to help him stop drinking.

The man identified as Ephraim Mwape 63 died after taking the concoction which caused him to vomit severely.

Luapula Province commanding officer Gloria Mulele said the police had detained Dout Chande traditional healer following the death of Mr Mwape.

Ms Mulele said the incident happened on December 27,2022 around 15:00 hours.

She explained that Mr Mwape went to the traditional healer with his sister Judith Mwape 78 to look for  medicine so that he could stop drinking alcohol.

“Mr Mwape 63 of Mwense district died after taking some concoction mixed in Kachasu beer which was given to him by a traditional healer purporting to be medicine to stop drinking alcohol.Mr Mwape started vomiting  and in the  afternoon at 15:00 hours he was rushed to Mambilima Mission hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival,”she said.

She said samples of the concoction have been taken for analysis.
