Graham Potter Explains Why he Benched Aubameyang Despite Chelsea Desperately Needing a Goal with 10 men

Chelsea’s struggles under head coach Graham Potter continued as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Fulham in a west London derby at Craven Cottage.

Former Chelsea winger Willian put the hosts in front in the first half, before Kalidou Koulibaly equalized for Chelsea shortly after the break.

Chelsea were then reduced to 10 men when debutant Joao Felix was given a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Kenny Tete. Carlos Vinicius then sealed the win for Fulham with a headed goal in the 73rd minute.

Potter attempted to salvage a result by bringing on four substitutes in the final minutes of the match, but left Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the bench.

This led former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole to suggest that Potter’s decision to not bring on Aubameyang was a clear indication that the striker is currently out of favor.
