SASSA SRD Grants News on Why Millions Are Unable To Access Funds
In Today’s SRD grant news, the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has explained the reasons as to why millions are unable to access funds in the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.
Executive Manager for Grants in Sassa, Brenton van Vrede has explained that the issues is as a result of changes they made on their digital systems with regards to changes made in the SRD grant’s regulations. This has resulted in backlogs through which many beneficiaries are yet to receive their grant payouts.
The new regulations have also resulted in amendments to the SRD grant’s requirements. According to a recent Social Relief of Distress Grant progress report by the Minister to National Council of Provinces: health and social services, SRD grant recipients not updating their details on the system are one of the key issues that they have encountered.
Sassa has also stated that an SMS will be delivered when grant beneficiaries are ready to withdraw money from any of the available retail outlets, and an ID document to complete the transaction must be used.
The Executive Manager also recommended that recipients of the R350 grant regularly update their contact information in the system. The additional delay should be anticipated after changing details due to the system’s recurring updates.
