2023: NGO Roots For Igbo Presidency

A Non-governmental Organization, One Nigeria Project, has urged political parties to micro-zone their presidential ticket to the South-East geopolitical zone.

The FCT coordinator of the One Nigeria project, Lanre Niyi who made the call at the press conference in Abuja, lamented that since the return to a democratic dispensation in 1999, all major sections have had a shot at the presidency except the Igbo nation.

Niyi said that Nigeria needs a president that can unite the country, address the security challenges, create wealth by engaging jobless youths and address the seeming marginalization and lopsided distribution of infrastructural development.

According to the group, the nation’s sovereignty is under threat due to several socio-economic, security, and political abnormalities as well as the marginalization of some regions.

He, therefore, solicited the support of all well-meaning Nigerians to ensure an Igbo presidency is realized as was done for the southwest in 1999.

Also speaking, the National Coordinator, One Nigeria Project, Jarvis Jakpa said the Igbo presidency will promote National cohesion and give them a sense of belonging.

Jakpa however noted that the Igbo presidency will not solve all the country’s current problems, but a step in the right direction towards addressing some of them.

He added that the group currently has no preferred candidate, but it is willing to support any political party that zones its presidential ticket to the South East.
